My windsurf round Europe will likely take around two years to complete. Experience tells me that much of the time I will be tired and hungry. Staying fuelled with sufficient calories, and finding suitable places to overnight, will be major parts of the challenge. To help overcome these difficulties I am appealing to the good nature of the coastal dwelling international community. Please do consider registering as a Local Contact - you'll be supporting a bid for a windsurfing first and, indirectly, the conservation charity associated with this challenge.
I'll be going anti-clockwise round mainland Europe. The blue line on the map is a rough guess - (click for a larger image).
Very roughly, I expect timing to work out something like this:
|Start at Russia-Norway border||17 May 2017 (or as soon after as conditions permit)|
|Norway||May - August 2017|
|Sweden (if no Skagerrak Sea crossing)||August 2017|
|Germany||August - September 2017|
|France||October - November 2017|
|Timings soon start to get very speculative. I will probably have to hole up for a few months whilst the winter gales blow through. That will be an opportunity to write and work. The important thing is that I won't be heading 'home'. This is a continuous expedition.|
|Morocco (day trip anyone?)||2018|
|Finish at Ukraine-Russia border||2019|
Types of help
These fall into 3 categories. If you are in a position and have the inclination to help out in any of these, it would be great to hear from you. Your contribution will likely be afternoon/evening time and I'll be sailing off into the distance the following morning.
|Type of help||Example|
|Somewhere secure for board and sail||
- a garden or garage near the sea
|Access to food / water||
- a hot meal
|Somewhere to sleep||
- a tent in a garden would be more than adequate
