CHALKIDA SAILING CLUB

Please consider registering

My windsurf round Europe will likely take around two years to complete. Experience tells me that much of the time I will be tired and hungry. Staying fuelled with sufficient calories, and finding suitable places to overnight, will be major parts of the challenge. To help overcome these difficulties I am appealing to the good nature of the coastal dwelling international community. Please do consider registering as a Local Contact - you'll be supporting a bid for a windsurfing first and, indirectly, the conservation charity associated with this challenge.

Route

I'll be going anti-clockwise round mainland Europe. The blue line on the map is a rough guess - (click for a larger image).

Timing

Very roughly, I expect timing to work out something like this:

Start at Russia-Norway border 17 May 2017 (or as soon after as conditions permit)
Norway May - August 2017
Sweden (if no Skagerrak Sea crossing) August 2017
Denmark August 2017
Germany August - September 2017
Netherlands September 2017
Belgium September 2017
France October - November 2017
Timings soon start to get very speculative. I will probably have to hole up for a few months whilst the winter gales blow through. That will be an opportunity to write and work. The important thing is that I won't be heading 'home'. This is a continuous expedition.
Spain 2018
Portugal 2018
Spain again 2018
Morocco (day trip anyone?) 2018
Gibraltar 2018
France again 2018
Monaco 2018
Italy 2018
Albania 2018
Greece 2019
Turkey 2019
Bulgaria 2019
Romania 2019
Ukraine 2019
Finish at Ukraine-Russia border 2019

Types of help

These fall into 3 categories. If you are in a position and have the inclination to help out in any of these, it would be great to hear from you. Your contribution will likely be afternoon/evening time and I'll be sailing off into the distance the following morning.

Type of help Example
Somewhere secure for board and sail

- a garden or garage near the sea
- sailing club or marina facilities, etc.

Access to food / water

- a hot meal
- a few supplies delivered or a lift somewhere to stock up
- café / pizzeria / equivalent place that serves food

Somewhere to sleep

- a tent in a garden would be more than adequate
- as would a berth on a boat
- or a sofa, shed, campervan, etc...

Registering is very simple, you'll be done in about 2 minutes. Please remember to zoom the map to a high level of detail so that you can be as accurate as possible with your marker position.
